Last April, Ms. Parivash Setvati, widow of the late Doctor Hossein Fatemi
met with Mr. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, president of the Islamic Republic of Iran. On the
occasion, allegedly, she relinquished Hossein Fatemi's memoirs written in the same cell
where today his true heirs await slander, torture and death for the exact same
purpose to which he gave his life.
We carry his name, we carry his blood. Hossein Fatemi's martyrdom ought not
to be recuperated as a propaganda tool for Islamist radicals. Hossein Fatemi
died for a free Iran.
We make our objection public so that future generations of Iranians may
know that all forms of opposition to foreign powers are not equal in legitimacy;
and that Hossein Fatemi died so that they could live a life free from lies,
ignorance, depravation, poverty and oppression.
